Keynote Address

Thomas R. Russell, MD, FACS

Thomas R. Russell, MD, FACS, Executive Director of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), will deliver the Keynote Address at AAOMS' 90th Annual Meeting, September 17-20, 2008 in Seattle. A former private practice general surgeon who specialized in colon and rectal surgery, Dr. Russell has overseen the 95-year-old association since 2000. In addition to his responsibilities with the ACS, he is also an adjunct professor in the Department of Surgery at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, IL.

Dr. Russell's career includes more than 20 years of experience in health care. Before joining the American College of Surgeons, he was the chairman of the Department of Surgery at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, California and a clinical professor of surgery at the University of California, also in San Francisco. Dr. Russell received his baccalaureate degree in zoology from the University of California and his doctor of medicine degree from Creighton University Medical School in Omaha, NE. He completed his residency at the University of California in San Francisco, CA. Dr. Russell is board certified in Surgery.
