Annual Meeting attendees listen to a presentation at the Anesthesia Update
Tuesday action began bright and early with the opening of onsite meeting registration, day one of the sold-out Anesthesia Update for the OMS and Reference Committee hearings.
The registration counter welcomed meeting arrivals seeking to register, obtain additional session tickets and, generally, get the lay of the land for the meeting week ahead.
Over 400 Anesthesia Update attendees heard presentations on anesthesia monitoring, techniques and morbidity and mortality experiences.
Reference Committee hearings offer meeting attendees the opportunity to comment on the resolutions before the House of Delegates prior to the preparation of the Committees' report and recommendations. Discussion was lively as delegates expressed their opinions, opposition and support for the resolutions to be considered by the House of Delegates during its second session on Wednesday.

The AAOMS 91st Annual Meeting, Scientific Sessions and Exhibition, held in conjunction with the Canadian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, was off and running with a warm welcome and an exciting announcement during the first session of the AAOMS House of Delegates on Monday, October 12.
Canadian Association President Daniel F. Omura welcomed AAOMS colleagues to Toronto and expressed pleasure with the growth of the relationship between CAOMS and AAOMS and his hope that the exchange will continue to evolve and mature.

AAOMS President R. Lynn White presents OMSF with a check for $200,000 for the foundation's REAP program
Next came the announcement from Dr. David Frost, chair of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation Board of Directors, that the fundraising challenge issued by the AAOMS Board of Trustees at the 2008 annual meeting had been met - and exceeded - by a landslide! Challenged to raise a minimum of $600,000 by the 2009 annual meeting, the OMS Foundation actually received more than $1.1 million in new contributions to the foundation's REAP campaign. Dr. Frost noted that when all contributions were accounted for, the total amount was in excess of $1.3 million. As AAOMS President R. Lynn White presented the $200,000 check pledged last year if the OMSF met the fundraising goal, he told Dr. Frost, "this successful campaign speaks eloquently of the membership's faith and support for this specialty and the research that is so necessary to our future growth."
The House of Delegates elected Dr. Colin S. Bell, Dallas, TX, to a seven-year term on the Board of Directors of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
AAOMS President R. Lynn White, DDS, addressed the assembly, recapping the activities of the association during his presidential year. He discussed the successes and challenges of the past twelve months, particularly in the areas of third molar surgery and office-based anesthesia.
