Synopsis

Distraction osteogenesis (DO) is a surgical technique which has gained clinical acceptance yet continues to evolve as new applications are introduced. Additionally, new generations of DO devices allow the clinician more clinical options and patient applications. This course will provide the participant the knowledge base for advanced techniques utilizing distraction osteogenesis. From mandibular reconstruction using bilateral sagittal split osteotomy (BSSO) distraction and DO for obstructive sleep apnea, to reconstructing a neo-condyle for degenerative joint disease (DJD) or bony ankylosis to maxillary DO for clefts, to hinge alveolar DO, this course will review the latest evidence-based technology for DO.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe the techniques for mandibular and maxillary distraction osteogenesis.
  2. Participate in evidence-based review of current and future literature publications.
  3. Discuss the techniques of dentoalveolar DO.
