Synopsis

The incidence of gunshot wounds has increased. Data from law enforcement and the military has improved our understanding of these injuries and their management. This clinic will discuss ballistics, survival, initial care and definitive reconstruction of gunshot wounds to the head and neck.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe the principles of ballistic, effects on tissues and subsequent impact on survival and management.
  2. Describe methods of early management of gunshot wounds to the face. Insight from a first responder will be given.
  3. Describe the management and reconstruction of the gunshot victim.
