Trigeminal nerve injury occurs following routine OMS procedures, usually third molar surgery. Injuries are classified (Seddon, Sunderland) based upon the likelihood of an injured nerve to recover spontaneously. The clinical testing should be simple and performed by all OMSs. Pharmacologic and non-surgical treatments are available, but microneurosurgery should not be delayed when indicated. Surgical repair involves neurolysis and preparation of nerve stumps to perform neurorrhaphy, but nerve grafting, or entubulation may also be used. This surgical clinic is designed to provide the requisite information necessary for the OMS regarding diagnosis, management, and appropriate referral.
