Infection Control Teamwork- How to Meet and Exceed CDC Guidelines

Synopsis

Participant will learn how to implement Centers for Diesease Control (CDC) guidelines for infection control. Tips will be provided to encourage full office participation in meeting infection control goals. Reliable resources for infection control in the dental health care setting will be provided. Take aways include: an infection control checklist, how to evaluate your office infection control program, and a variety of reliable resources for infection control information. Hands on demonstration and audience participation encouraged.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Locate the CDC infection control guidelines and key state and federal regulations;
  2. Understand the basic concept of the chain of infection and learn how to effectively stop that spread of disease agents;
  3. Understand the difference between sterilization and disinfection;
  4. Identify and classify instruments based on the Spaulding classification;
  5. Explain the steps for cleaning and disinfecting clinical contact surfaces and devices;
  6. Understand the levels of disinfection and choose appropriate products to accomplish the desired results;
  7. Recognize common mistakes in sterilization and disinfection; and 8) Identify appropriate products/protocols for cleaning and disinfecting devices and clinical contact surfaces and for sterilization of instruments.
