Synopsis

This presentation will update and review basic pharmacologic principles. Common sedative, anesthetic and emergency drugs will be discussed, as well as their role in the oral and maxillofacial surgery practice. Interactions and the treatment of common medical emergencies will be reviewed.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Recognize the dangers associated with drug interactions;
  2. Identify different classes of drugs and their indications, contradictions, side effect and use; and
  3. List references to provide a knowledge base prior to clinical treatment.
