Synopsis

This hands-on anesthesia workshop for oral and maxillofacial surgery assistants will review airway management with various airway adjuncts, use of emergency drugs and mini-code, critical cardiac dysrhythmias and defibrillation, and the use of the peak flow meter and glucometer.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Recognize airway obstruction and describe its management;
  2. Utilize the principal airway adjuncts;
  3. Recognize critical cardiac dysrhythmias;
  4. Demonstrate appropriate defibrillation technique;
  5. Explain the importance of team management of office emergencies;
  6. Demonstrate the preparation and administration of emergency drugs; and
  7. Utilize the peak flow meter and glucometer.
