Advanced Coding Principles for Accurate Claims Filing

Synopsis
Improve office practice and patient care by learning how to assign proper procedural and diagnostic codes. Attendees will enhance their professional knowledge related to basic coding principles and take these principles to an advanced level. Accurate coding and reporting of services performed for third party payers must be understood and implemented in each OMS office to communicate patient information in a precise manner so as to not negatively impact patient medical records. This course is designed for those more experienced with coding. AAOMS Basic Online and Beyond the Basics coding courses are required prior to taking this course. See aaoms.org for information on AAOMS Basic Online, Beyond the Basics and Advanced Online coding courses. Current ICD-9-CM, CPT and CDT coding manuals are required for participation of this course. AAOMS does not provide them.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
- Assign accurate diagnostic and procedural codes to complex oral and maxillofacial surgery clinical scenarios; and
- Review diagnostic and procedural codes assigned to a case and determine appropriateness of coding.
