Download Handouts

David M. Rainero, DMD
Private Practice
Walnut Creek, CA, USA

Synopsis

Becoming successful in a private oral and maxillofacial surgery practice is similar to making it to the major leagues in baseball. Leaving residency is like transitioning from the minor leagues to the "Big League." This presentation will offer practical advice on making this transition a successful one. Details of starting a practice, setting up an office and managing the growth of a practice will be presented. The "rookie year" can be quite difficult. Experiences, successes and failures will be discussed. Samples of useful forms will be presented.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Share one oral and maxillofacial surgeon's successes and failures in entering and growing a private practice;
  2. Follow a guideline on becoming an integral part of patient care in the hospital and emergency room; and
  3. Employ systems to facilitate communications with patient's other health care providers to assure delivery of optimum care.
