Synopsis

The Legal standards of care for the placement of dental implants has changed so dramatically in recent years that now many complications, once considered risks of care, are being offered as evidence of malpractice and exposing providers to very high jury verdicts. Understanding the legal standards and implementating simple rules and documentation can prevent such liabilities.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Decrease exposure to claims of malpractice for what was once considered a complication of surgery;
  2. Reduce claims by discussion of more options and obtaining written informed refusal; and
  3. Use and interpret 3-D imaging to better determine patient candidacy and minimize complications, thereby minimizing liability exposure.
