Synopsis

Immediate loading of the edentulous maxilla is a predictable treatment option. Conventional surgical approach along with chairside conversion of the prosthetic denture into a fixed provisional bridge is a popular technique at this time. With the availability of CT scan-generated surgical templates, as well as presurgical fabrication of the provisional bridges, the treatment time for the patients is considerably reduced. This presentation discusses the limitations of the CT-generated approach and contrasts the pros and cons of conventional versus computer-generated treatment planning.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe the surgical as well as prosthetic protocols in treatment planning for the fully edentulous patient.
  2. Incorporate prosthetic steps with surgical steps in immediate loading.
  3. Identify the limitations in case selection for treatment of the edentulous maxilla with CT-generated templates and prostheses.
