Synopsis

New knowledge concerning the biologic behavior of odontogenic cysts and tumors allow the clinician to gain more predictable cores and better outcomes related to function, cosmetics, and preservation of sensation. Specialized techniques can preserve nerves while removing the entire lesion, reconstruct the defect, and rehabilitate the patients jaw and dental functions.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Gain a higher cure rate in their patients while maintaining or restoring function and esthetics.
  2. Explain the principles of cyst and tumor surgery and the techniques employed.
  3. Remove odontogenic keratocysts and other cysts completely and reduce recurrences.
  4. Remove various odontogenic tumors completely while preserving nerve sensations and accomplishing reconstruction.
  5. Definitively reconstruct tumor defects with consistently good outcomes.
