Synopsis

In many cases the orthodontic treatment period is prolonged due to limited rate of tooth movement. An integrated surgical approach utilizing transport distraction osteogenesis is designed to reduce orthodontic treatment time. Management of cases with large alveolar clefts may also be optimized and simplified through transport distraction of a tooth-bone segment.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Reduce the orthodontic treatment time drastically for some patients who may choose such an option;
  2. Evaluate the overall surgical protocol and all phases including osteotomy, latency and consolidation with certain variations; discuss the work-up of clinical cases and results; and
  3. Clinical cases will be presented in a stepwise manner to discuss all phases of surgical protocol, and the outcomes with generated soft and hard tissue for treatment optimization.
