Synopsis

Ablation of the mandible requires immediate or secondary reconstruction to maintain or recreate proper function and esthetics. Different techniques exist using free autogenous block or marrow grafts and microvascular transfers. The choice of when and what techniques might be the best, requires understanding of the biological process of graft healing.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe the basic biological process of bone graft healing and the differences between the different types.
  2. Describe the clinical technical aspects of different bone grafting systems which help ensure successful realization of outcomes.
