Synopsis
The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon is often called upon to treat facial trauma involving the orbit. This course will assist the surgeon in identifying injuries to the globe and adnexal structures which is essential to avoiding complications, communicating with ophthalmology consultants, and achieving successful reconstruction of such complex injuries.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
- Describe the anatomy of the orbit, globe and adnexal structures and how this anatomy is altered by trauma, and through this understanding, be able to look for and identify injuries in patients who require repair of fractures involving the orbit, allowing this to be accomplished in a safe manner.
- Discuss the examinations and tests that ophthalmologists employ to assess the traumatically injured eye.
- Discuss the fundoscopic and slit lamp examinations in a step by step manner.
