Synopsis
This clinic will serve as an overview for the management of aggressive head and neck infections. Emphasis will be placed on risk factors, airway management, antibiotic therapy, the surgical treatment of various space infections, necrotizing fasciitis and myositis. Secondary reconstruction will be discussed when appropriate.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
- Improve surgical outcomes as they pertain to tissue loss, need for secondary reconstruction, and need for surgical airway;
- Decrease ICU utilization and overall length of stay for infection patients; and
- Decrease patient mortality for those suffering from necrotizing soft tissue infections.
