Clinical Applications of rhBMP in Facial Surgery

Synopsis

This surgical clinic will review the mechanism of action of rhBMP-2 as well as indications and contraindications for its use. Both approved and off-label use of this factor will be discussed including maxillary sinus lifts, localized alveolar defects, as well as alveolar clefts, mandibular continuity defects and extensive alveolar defects.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

    1)Discuss the use of rhBMP-2. Describe the mechanism of action and advantages as well as disadvantages of rhBMP-2.
  1. Discuss the realistic expectations and limitations of rhBMP-2. Sound surgical principles will be presented.
