Synopsis
This course is intended for oral and maxillofacial surgeons to expand evaluation and treatment techniques in patients with sleep-disordered breathing. Rationale and procedures for using oral appliances will be presented in detail. In addition, patient selection and combined surgery, particularly suited to oral and maxillofacial surgeons will be emphasized.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
- Identify the underlying pathogenesis, diagnosis and management of patients with obstructive sleep apnea;
- Explain the rationale and technique for oral appliance therapy in the treatment of mild to moderate/severe sleep apnea and snoring; and
- Discuss controversies and indications for patients who require surgical upper airway reconstruction, i.e., UPPP, genioglossus advancement and combined procedures.
