Synopsis

Upper airway obstruction(s) are the etiology of most sleep apnea conditions and can occur from the nostrils to the larynx. There are 10 areas of potential obstruction that can be surgically managed. This presentation will discuss the diagnoses and surgical management of these areas to eliminate upper airway obstruction(s).

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe the anatomy and the 10 areas of potential upper airway obstruction, as well as the diagnostic methodology for identification.
  2. Discuss the surgical procedures that can be used to correct upper airway obstructions in any of the 10 locations.
  3. Identify which surgical procedures have the best long-term outcomes and predictability for correcting sleep apnea.
