The use of titanium mesh in as a containment system in bone grafting is one of many techniques that can be use to reconstruct the atrophic alveolar ridge and segmental defects. Calvarial bone grafts can also be utilized for ridge reconstruction. This lecture will present clinical experiences with the use of titanium mesh in alveolar ridge reconstruction and compare this to the use of calvarial bone in various applications prior to implant placement. The advantages and disadvantages of these techniques will be discussed with special emphasis on pearls and pitfalls.
