Synopsis
This course will guide the surgeon through the process of evaluating and treating mandibular trauma. Perioperative care, surgical access, endoscopic approaches and complication management will be reviewed.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
- Review the components of a complete evaluation of a patient with mandibular trauma. Indications for radiographs, computed tomograph( including three dimensional reconstructions), medical and dental models will be described.
- Review the anatomy and describe the open approached to the different regions of the mandible. Oral, submandibular, retromandibular and endoscopically assisted approaches will be reviewed.
- Discuss the possible complications of mandibular trauma care (infection, osteomyelitis, malocclusion). Describe the evaluation and treatment of each complication.
