Synopsis
The diagnosis and management of TMJ pain and dysfunction is generally made more complicated than necessary. This presentation reviews diagnostic criteria for myofascial pain, internal derangement and osteoarthritis and presents a practical approach for their management. Non-surgical treatments, arthrocentesis and arthroscopic lavage and lysis will be discussed. Finally, the criteria and surgical techniques for arthroplasty will be presented.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
- Describe the diagnostic criteria for MPD, Internal Derangement and Osteoarthrosis;
- Describe the diagnostic criteria for surgical intervention and selection of patients for arthrocentesis, arthroscopy or arthroplasty; and
- Describe the indications, techniques, outcomes, and complications associated with arthrocentesis, arthroscopic lavage and lysis and arthroplasty.
