Synopsis

Orthognathic surgical preparation represents a critical event for surgeons and patients. Clinical parameters (esthetic and occlusal); radiographic analyses; predictive outcome studies; and clinical expertise all influence our decisions. We are also faced with economy of effort in treating over 250 osteotomies per year. We present our simplified method of treatment planning from patient exam, unmounted model surgery and we introduce a "surgically-based treatment plan" which allows for favorable outcomes guided by ease of surgical movements. Model studies, lab demonstrations and cases will be shown.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Review methods of model surgery and describe a quick, accurate model surgery and stent fabrication without mounted models.
  2. Incorporate the surgical movements into the esthetic and radiograph planning to allow the performance of a simpler surgery.
