Synopsis

Surgical management of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders continues to be challenging. The management is often biased based on the interest of the surgeon and also his/her understanding of the disease. This surgical course will look into the various treatment options in management of TMJ disorders with particular emphasis on evidence based approach. The course will also review the outcomes of a wide variety of surgical procedures ranging from arthrocentesis to alloplastic total joint prosthesis.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Discuss the surgical management of TMJ disorders; and
  2. Identify surgical procedures that improve the outcomes of patients requiring TMJ surgery.
