Synopsis

Bone graft harvesting is a major component of reconstructive surgery. The anterior and posterior iliac crest, rib, cranium and tibia are sites commonly utilized by surgeons. Knowledge of surgical anatomy, proper graft harvesting techniques, postoperative care and common complications will be presented.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Review essential applied surgical anatomy as it pertains to harvesting of multiple non-vascular bone graft sites.
  2. Discuss postoperative complications as a result of bone harvesting techniques and how to reduce morbidity.
  3. Improve the outcomes of patients requiring reconstruction with bone grafts.
  4. Utilize live real time surgical videos demonstrating the critical aspects of harvesting non vascular bone.
