Synopsis

The key to successful management of facial trauma is proper clinical and radiological evaluation. It is important for the surgeons to have diverse biomaterial options for the management of these injuries. This lecture will focus on the treatment of extensive maxillofacial injuries with resorbable fixation systems. There will be an emphasis on the techniques and biomaterials for reconstruction of bony injuries. An extensive experience and clinical outcomes with the use of resorbable systems in the management of maxillofacial trauma will be presented.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Review the indications and contraindications for the use of bioresorbable plates and screws in the management of craniomaxillofacial injuries.
  2. Describe the techniques along with pearls and pitfalls.
