Symposium on Upper Third Facial Rejuvenation: A Review of Traditional Techniques and New Advances

Synopsis

Surgical rejuvenation of the upper third of the face requires a comprehensive evaluation of both the skin of the forehead and the periorbital structures. Strict attention to upper lid function and anatomy is critical to a successful surgical treatment plan. Assessment of brow position relative to the supraorbital bony rim is necessary to correctly rejuvenate the forehead and eyelid structures. Assessment of skin health is necessary to obtain the best result. This symposium will review the comprehensive evaluation and surgical treatment of the aged upper third of the face. It will also include new advances in surgical techniques.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this symposium, participants will be able to:

  1. Discuss and employ a comprehensive evaluation of the upper and lower eyelids, brow position, and skin quality;
  2. Apply browlifting techniques including coronal incision with skin excision, limited pre-trichial approach with skeletal suspension, endoscopic techniques, and myotomies;
  3. Describe the technique of upper eye lid surgery including muscle resection, lid crease and dealing with aponeurotic defects; and
  4. Describe the technique of lower eyelid surgery including transconjunctival approach, subciliary approach, canthopexy, and laser versus chemical treatment of lid skin.
