Symposium: Diagnosis and Treatment of Chronic Facial Pain


Synopsis

Chronic facial pain is a difficult situation for both the patient and practitioner. There are many etiologies and varied expressions of pain. It is not always easy to diagnose, and not always easy to manage. This symposium will critically look at: causes of facial pain and methods of diagnosing chronic facial pain. Newer modalities to evaluate and treat patients with painful syndromes will also be discussed. Burning mouth syndrome, a common type of facial pain encountered the OMS will also be presented. Surgery is often ineffective in managing these types of situations; advances in medical management will also be discussed.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this symposium, participants will be able to:

  1. Discuss how to treatment plan of patients with chronic facial pain;
  2. Explain how Quantitative Sensory Testing is used in the evaluation of facial pain patients; and
  3. Discuss newer treatment modalities used in the management of facial pain.
