Chronic facial pain is a difficult situation for both the patient and practitioner. There are many etiologies and varied expressions of pain. It is not always easy to diagnose, and not always easy to manage. This symposium will critically look at: causes of facial pain and methods of diagnosing chronic facial pain. Newer modalities to evaluate and treat patients with painful syndromes will also be discussed. Burning mouth syndrome, a common type of facial pain encountered the OMS will also be presented. Surgery is often ineffective in managing these types of situations; advances in medical management will also be discussed.
