Carestream Dental / Kodak Dental Systems: Cone Beam CT in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Practice

Jefferey H. Brooks, DMD
Private Practice
Memphis, TN

Synopsis

Cone Beam CT (CBCT) technology is a relatively new addition to the oral surgery practice that has taken off with exponential growth. CBCT systems are designed to allow for high resolution imaging of the hard and soft tissues of the maxillofacial region. CBCT allows for short scanning times and radiation doses significantly less than traditional medical scanning techniques. The availability of this technology in the OMS practice provides the practitioner with an imaging modality capable of providing a 3-D orthogonal representation of the maxillofacial region with no distortion. With the explosive growth of third party dicom software applications, we are able to provide improved diagnosis and treatment for our patients with greater predictability and efficiency. This seminar will review cone beam technology and how it differs from traditional scanning technology with a focus on the Carestream 3D family of products. This presentation will provide the practitioner with an overview of the basics of CBCT, implant treatment planning in Kodak dental imaging software 3D module and will discuss features of CBCT that result in quality imaging. Information will also be reviewed to help the practitioner understand the field of view that will benefit their practice the most. Also, a quick review of some 3rd party software applications with a focus on 3D guided implantology will be covered.
