Testify to Win - How to Prevail at Trial#

This course is designed for expert witnesses and defendants to prepare for litigation and trial. The information is from the perspective of 20 years' experience as a medical/dental expert witness. Topics include evidence, evaluation, jury education, lawyer education, critical thinking assessment to prepare for cross-examination and logical thinking as it pertains to case analysis. Evaluation of the standard of care as it pertains to the facts and circumstances of the case will be emphasized. The participant will be provided with actual case examples demonstrating the use of case evidence, including records, depositions and exhibits to develop the basis for case analysis. The participant will learn to effectively prepare for cross-examination and to develop cognitive awareness of the legal process. The participant will develop the skills needed for effective education of the court.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Improve doctor-to-patient communication techniques and identify the importance of accuracy, clarity and timeliness of doctor-to-doctor communication;
  2. Increase awareness of accuracy and comprehensive requirements of medical/dental records and informed consent, avoid and minimize surgical complications through case reviews, and understand the appropriateness of patient selection; and
  3. Understand the variability of practice techniques and treatment planning, and develop an approach to assess what a reasonable standard of care is under the circumstances of the particular case.
