Synopsis

Becoming successful in a private oral andmaxillofacial surgery practice is similar tomaking it to the major leagues in baseball.Leaving residency is like transitioning fromthe minor leagues to the “Big League.” Thispresentation will offer practical advice onmaking this transition a successful one.Details of starting a practice, setting up anoffice and managing the growth of apractice will be presented. The “rookieyear” can be quite difficult. Experiences,successes and failures will be discussed.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe a logical and systematic approach to finding and establishing the private practice setting that will lead to long-term success and stability;
  2. Describe setting up of an office, establishing patient care systems, and managing the growth of the practice; and
  3. Provide strategies for becoming an active part of the trauma team in caring for patients with maxillofacial injuries.
