Clinical Applications of Recombinant Human Bone Morphogenetic Protein-2 (rhBMP-2)

Robert E. Marx, DDS
Professor of Surgery and Chief, Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
University of Miami Miller School of Medicine
Miami, FL

Synopsis

Recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein (rhBMP) regenerates normal bone de-novo without the need and added morbidity of bone harvesting. Now, ridge preservation, ridge augmentation, sinus lift surgeries, and even continuity defects can be reconstructed in such grafting.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe bone regeneration without bone harvesting
  2. Utilize bone grafting capabilities
  3. Describe the extended applications of rhBMP-2 for large sized defects.
