Synopsis

Bone reconstruction in the maxillofacial region can be challanging. The use of a donor site can lead to increased morbidity. THe use of rh BMP-2 has revolutionized reconstruction. It has increased the success of reconstruction while decreasing donor site morbidity in many cases. This course will help the clinician understand the use of rh BMP-2 in reconstruction.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

1. Describe the basic science of Bone Morphogenetic Protein and its uses.
2. Increase the clinician's knowledge of the role of rh BMP-2 in reconstruction
3. Provide alternatives to the use of iliac crest grafts and other donor morbidities
