Synopsis

The course will cover complications of mandibular osteotomies with a focus on unfavorable splits. Preoperative, intraoperative and post operative factors will be covered. Basics of prevention and limiting incidence. Cases of the most common forms of unfavorable splits will be presented with a focus on their management and outcome.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe methods for managing the more common complications in mandibular orthognathic surgery and the common forms of unfavorable splits of the mandible
  2. Describe the preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative factors which can lead to poor outcomes and describe the technical and anatomic factors that can lead to unfavorable splits of the mandible.
