Symposium on the Special Needs Patient

Synopsis

This session will focus on the special needs patient and issues regarding their anesthetic management. In this session, conditions that are now frequently seen in the OMS office will be reviewed.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this symposium, participants will be able to:

  1. Discuss current concepts in autism, including proposed etiologies, identification, incidence and current medications that these patients may be on.
  2. Discuss other special needs including schizoaffective disorders, major depression, ADHD and others and the implications for office based anesthesia.
  3. Discuss appropriate approaches to the pediatric patient below the Age of Reason.
