Review the latest innovations and methods of anesthesia administration, monitoring and emergency management. The Anesthesia Assistants Review Course (AARC) is a continuing education course designed for professional and allied staff to improve their anesthesia knowledge and skills. Participants will benefit from this intensive review course which focuses on principles of anesthesia learned through structured training, as well as discussion of the latest innovations and methods of anesthesia administration, monitoring and emergency management. This course was developed by the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and is taught by AAOMS members and fellows.

If you have an assistant enrolled in the Dental Anesthesia Assistant National Certification Examination Program (DAANCE), this course will be extremely beneficial for them. The AARC intention is to provide a review for assistants that have previously taken the DAANCE, or for assistants currently enrolled in the DANCE to help them pass their final examination. The AARC is updated on a yearly basis to reflect current protocols used in office based anesthesia in the oral and maxillofacial surgery office.

This is the premier educational opportunity to have your assistants learn protocols that will be useful in the OMS office specifically. Accept no substitute; have your assistant attend the only course that will help them prepare for the DAANCE.

Your colleagues will be teaching this course, so you know that the education given will be what oral and maxillofacial surgeons are doing in their offices, not general dentists or anesthesiologists.

The course is open to all members of the dental anesthesia assisting team.

The following topics will be covered during this day and a half program:

  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Medicine
  • Pharmacology
  • Monitoring
  • EKG Interpretation
  • Anesthetic Emergencies
Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe the concepts of medical evaluation of patients for anesthesia
  2. Discuss the mechanical and pharmacological aspects of outpatient anesthesia
  3. Explain the methods of patient monitoring and management of medical emergencies

Please remember to bring a sweater or jacket, as meeting room temperatures can fluctuate and generally tend to be on the colder side.

The course will conclude at 12:30 pm on Sunday, December 6, 2009, please make your flight arrangements accordingly so that you do not miss the last portion of the program.
