Geistlich Philip J. Boyne Memorial Scholarship
The AAOMS is pleased to announce the Philip J. Boyne Memorial Scholarship Fund supported by Geistlich Biomaterials to provide assistance to OMS residents to participate in the 2013 AAOMS Dental Implant Conference, December 6-7, 2013 in Chicago, IL.
The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to OMS Residents to attend the AAOMS Dental Implant Conference, increase resident participation at the Dental Implant Conference and provide an educational opportunity for residents to expand knowledge and understanding on the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery.
The award will be granted to support fifteen (15) residents at $1,500 each. The award monies will be disbursed within two weeks following the conclusion of the Dental Implant Conference. For more information, please review the award guidelines.
Dr. Philip J. Boyne spent a 20 year career in the U.S. Navy and a second career as a professor and research scientist in advanced dental education. Dr. Boyne's research and teachings covered many areas with a focus on maxillofacial bone grafting and regeneration. He was the first to develop and report many surgical procedures. His research has involved the application of bone-inductor cytokines to produce bone repair without the necessity of bone grafting. He has authored textbooks and book chapters on maxillofacial surgery, and has published more than 230 articles in refereed (peer reviewed) journals. Dr. Boyne passed away June 9, 2008 and will be remembered for his positive outlook on life, his enthusiastic spirit, his legacy of mentorship, his creativity, dedication to dental education research and unfailing adaptability.
