AAOMS ICD-10 Coding Workshops Coming Soon!

February 16th, 2012

The AAOMS ICD-10 Coding Workshop will debut later this year. The one-day course will cover the history, structure, and format of ICD-10-CM as well as provide instruction on how to apply the new coding conventions and guidelines to OMS diagnostic code assignment.

A workshop has been scheduled for August 4, 2012 in Schaumburg, IL and another November 10, 2012 in conjunction with the Beyond the Basics Coding Workshop on November 11-12, 2012 in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition, ICD-10 will be incorporated into the November Beyond the Basics Coding Workshop therefore attendees will need to bring a draft copy of the ICD-10 manual to that course. ICD-10 manuals may be purchased by OPTUMInsight (formerly Ingenix).

AAOMS has received numerous member requests for earlier and more frequent ICD-10-CM courses in 2012. Although the ICD-10-CM workshops are in high demand, industry experts including AHIMA and the American Academy of Professional Coders recommend that ICD-10-CM workshops/courses are held within a 6 month time frame from the October 1, 2013 implementation date. These experts believe the earlier the workshops, the more information will be lost once the implementation date finally arrives. AAOMS will be providing more ICD-10-CM workshops in the beginning of 2013 before the October 1, 2013 implementation date for ICD-10-CM. Members should periodically check the AAOMS website workshops page for more information on ICD-10-CM education.
