Avoid 1.5% E-Prescribing Payment Cut

February 4th, 2013

CMS will be issuing letters to those eligible providers who did not successfully e-prescribe (e-Rx) in 2012. While OMS are eligible to participate in the e-RX incentive program, they are exempt from the 1.5 % payment adjustment for the time being. Those that did participate and submitted HCPCS code G8553 (Prescription generated and transmitted via a qualified e-Rx system) to their claims and feel they should have received an incentive or those that receive a letter noting a payment adjustment for unsuccessfully e-prescribing will have a possible remedy issued by CMS:

  • Providers who believe they had correctly submitted at least 10 electronic prescriptions with the HCPCS code G8553 by the deadline of June 30, 2012 may request an informal review by February 28, 2013. The provider/s must submit any information pertaining to the G8553 code along with their individual NPI, e-mail address, telephone number and mailing address to the eRxInformalReview@cms.hhs.gov for review. According to the 2013 Medicare physician Fee Schedule, CMS will provide a written notification of their decision to the provider/s.

For more detailed information on the 2013 payment adjustment visit the e-Rx page of the CMS website and the Practice Management page of the AAOMS website.
