OMSs needed in Haiti
January 21st, 2010
The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) has received several contacts from members who are interested in assisting in the Haiti relief efforts, including management of facial trauma, AAOMS has compiled the following links that may be helpful to members seeking to provide financial or on-site support to Haiti:
Partners in Health is currently managing the university hospital in Port-au-Prince. They have indicated a need for OMSs and have an e-mail address posted where OMSs and other doctors can forward their contact information and qualifications for on-site assistance. Their website is http://www.standwithhaiti.org/haiti. To view information on donating supplies and services to Partners in Health, please read Partners In Health - How to Donate Supplies and Services.
AAOMS is a sponsor of Health Volunteers Overseas (HVO). HVO has posted the following information on their website; including a link to a hospital about 50 miles outside of Port-au-Prince which has been treating earthquake victims around the clock from Port-au-Prince and neighboring towns.
The American College of Surgeons (ACS) has provided valuable information on their web site on the Haiti Earthquake, with updated alerts including the CDC vaccination guidelines and precautions. In addition the ACS volunteer initiative, "Operation Giving Back", has information on Haiti which includes breaking news, resources for responders, and a list of Operation Giving Back partner agencies involved in Haiti relief efforts.
In addition, InterAction has a list of organizations delivering services. Contributions are being accepted through the American Red Cross, Samaritan's Purse and Global Impact's Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund, which directs the funds to agencies providing assistance.
