CHARGE
To provide an outcome measure for oral and maxillofacial surgery residency education, and provide constructive feedback to residents and residency program directors concerning their educational process.
GOALS
- To examine OMS residents on a core knowledge by construction of a new exam yearly
- To give objective feedback to residents on their fund of knowledge by providing the question and the referenced answers at some point after the completion of the exam
- To help prepare residents of the ABOMS written exam
- To give program directors feedback regarding the progress of their residents
- To give programs and program directors feedback on their residency education process
- To serve as an outcomes measure for each OMS residency training program
OMSSAT Committee Composition
The Committee shall be composed of 11 members and a Chairman. The Chairman is appointed by the AAOMS Board of Trustees. The Chair may serve for a total of up to six (6) years on the committee plus two years as Chair. The Section Editors are appointed by the Chairman and are eligible to complete up to two (2) three-year terms. Section Editors will adhere to a rotation schedule with appointments staggered so that no more than two (2) members' terms are completed in any given year and would not coincide with the content areas overseen by that Section Editor to be examined on the OMSSAT that year. The Section Editors can be appointed to other content areas immediately after their term limit in another content area. The Faculty Section's Program Planner shall serve on the OMSSAT Committee for three (3) years through his/her ascension to Secretary-Treasurer and Vice Chair on the Faculty Section Executive Committee. The AAOMS Representative is appointed by the AAOMS Board of Trustees for a four (4) year term. The ABOMS Representative is appointed by the ABOMS President and is appointed for a two (2) year term.
