The 2011 Research Summit and Young Investigators' Day will convene beginning with the Young Investigators' Day program on the morning of May 5. The Research Summit programs will begin on May 5 at 1 PM, and conclude in the afternoon of May 6. A welcoming reception is scheduled for May 5 at 6PM. Please register using the links below. There is no registration fee for the programs or social event.

Scholarships for OMS Residents

The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation is offering a limited number of scholarships for residents in OMS training programs to attend the Young Investigators' Day and Research Summit. Interested residents should complete the scholarship form and submit it to Lucia Clark.

The Young Investigators' Day program promotes careers in education and research and provides mentoring opportunities for young faculty and residents and includes presentations on:

  • Preparing for A Career in Academics and Research: Is a PhD Required?
  • Anatomy of a Well Written Grant
  • Writing and Submitting Research Articles

Research Summit

The Research Summit is comprised of three sessions as well as a poster session:

  • Head and Neck Cancer
  • Obstructive Sleep Apnea
  • Cleft and Craniofacial Anomalies

Each session includes an overview of research conducted in the session topic area, three scientific presentations, a presentation on funding opportunities from a government funding agency. Each session will conclude with a discussion of the summary of findings, OMS applications, future directions, and recommendations for funding. The funding recommendations that are developed at the end of each session will be submitted to the appropriate government funding agencies. The proceedings of the 2011 Research Summit will be submitted for publication in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
