Technology Manager

Overview

The Technology Manager reports to the CFO/AED Operations and Business and is responsible for providing the Association with strategic direction and leadership regarding information services.  Additionally, the Technology Manager works with employees, affiliate organizations, outside consultants, and vendors to design and implement all system and network enhancements, and effectively coordinates all related end user training. The position also develops peer relationships with SMT and other managers to cohesively lead employees and build skills at the SMT, manager and staff levels.

The Technology Manager works closely with the CFO/AED Operations and Business to create a proposed budget based on the AAOMS Technology vision and manages the annual budget once it is approved.  Furthermore, the Technology Manager allocates resources, and balances employee workloads and skills in the Technology Department.  The Technology Manager also manages the career development of department employees, solicits input on their performance from other personnel, and evaluates their performance.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or relevant work experience
  • 5 years of IT Management experience
  • 7-10 years of overall IT experience
  • Security certifications, such as CEH, CISSP or CISM highly desirable
  • Excellent project management and strong ability to prioritize
  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills
  • Proven track record in big picture thinking and IT Strategic Planning
  • Experience leading and managing IT projects and rolling out IT infrastructures across technology platforms
  • Strong communication skills needed to be able to interface with all levels of staff
  • Experience with Microsoft Server AD; Office 365; Networking; Storage; Exchange; SQL; Web development; Network, Application, device and end-user Security
  • 5 Years of IT Security Management or Security Analyst experience strongly preferred
  • Flexibility regarding hours as some off-hours and weekend work may be required
Key Accountabilities
  • Define and Implement the AAOMS technology vision
    • Ensure all projects adhere to the technology vision
    • Provide strategic input to AAOMS Senior Management
    • Provide project management to all new IT initiatives
  • Strategic Oversight of the Association Network and Web Site
    • Responsible for stability, effectiveness, and security of the AAOMS IT network
    • Responsible for recommending and implementing network, storage, server, security upgrades based on current and evolving technology
    • Responsible for maintaining PCI compliance and documentation
    • Responsible for running scans on external websites and coordinating with the webmaster (in the communications department) to ensure that security issues are fixed in a timely manner. 
  • Provide effective user support, including staff training
    • Manages the IT Department Help Desk
    • Coordinates all Staff Training
  • Manage the completion and maintenance of system documentation
  • Management of IT Budget
    • Prepare computer IT Budget plan and suggest recommendations
    • Negotiates prices with vendors and maintains vendor relationships
    • Manage IT expenditures within approved budgets
  • Development of Departmental Staff (staff of 2)
    • Provides various training options to IT staff
    • Mentors and trains IT Staff
  • Provides a Secure and Stable Network
    • Manages the Network Firewall, Anti-Virus, Spyware, Intrusion Detection, and Spam Protection tools
    • Manages Network Vulnerabilities and Software Updates and Patches
    • Provides yearly all staff Security awareness training
    • Creates and keeps up to date all IT Polices
    • Makes recommendations for new security initiatives and tools
  • Provides Hands-on user and Network Support
    • Provides support to all users, Senior Management and Board
    • Provides daily Network, Server, Storage and Security Management Support
    • Responsible for the phone system and VOIP service
    • Provides support for the AV equipment in the OMS Institute for Education and Innovation as needed
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing personal networks

Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned by the CFO/AED Operations and Business.
