7 tips to make the most of the 2022 Annual Meeting

  1. Determine your meeting goals – Decide what you want to accomplish. If you are the sole OMS from your practice or university in attendance, ask colleagues what information they want you to gather. This can help broaden your scope and allow you to return with a wealth of knowledge to share.
  2. Create a foundation for learning – Start the Annual Meeting with a solid foundation by attending the Anesthesia Update preconference program, which will focus on the surgeon’s role in navigating the care of patients with mental illness. Register now, as space is limited for this popular session.
  3. Try something new – The Annual Meeting offers a range of topics to explore. When planning your schedule, consider a course on Office-Based Emergency Airway Management (OBEAM) Module, coding and billing or dental implants.
  4. Plan your schedule – Use the AAOMS mobile app to build your personal itinerary. Allow time for fun in New Orleans – and be sure to check out Visit New Orleans for attractions. And don’t miss the President’s Event at the National WWII Museum, where you’ll relax and enjoy an evening of fun, food and entertainment at the historical site. (Tickets are required for the President’s Event.)
  5. Don’t overbook yourself – While your schedule might not appear full, sitting in sessions and participating in events can be demanding, especially when dealing with a time zone change. Establish your priorities and – if you need time to recharge – stroll through the Exhibit Hall. Browse specialty-related products and services from 100-plus exhibitors and check out Eat, Drink and be Industry-Educated sessions and Industry Symposiums that highlight the latest technologies and innovations for practices.
  6. Make the most of networking opportunities – A major benefit of the Annual Meeting is networking. Before the meeting, check your business card inventory, follow AAOMS on LinkedIn and access the online community for AAOMS members, AAOMS Connect. Looking for a research partner, business associate or job opportunity? Visit the AAOMS Store and Membership Services booth in the Exhibit Hall. Starting Aug. 17 through the end of the Annual Meeting, receive 20 percent off a job posting purchased on the AAOMS CareerLine website using the promotion code AAOMS2022. Visit the AAOMS CareerLine store or call 888-884-8242 to speak with a representative.
  7. Explore volunteerism – Take part in a new Volunteerism in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Spotlight Session incorporating the meeting’s theme of Volunteerism: Individuals United in Service. Topics discussed will include the value of volunteering and the variety of opportunities to get involved in missions, mentoring, and teaching service in local, regional and national societies.
