2017 Annual Meeting Learning Objectives

Pursuit of Excellence: Improving Patient Outcomes

At the conclusion of the AAOMS Annual Meeting, participants should be better able to:

  1. Evaluate treatment plans using new evidence-based medical management of patients.
  2. Review and examine the risk and complications of patient care and the use of methods for safe and effective management.
  3. Reduce the risk of medical errors.

Educational Program

No tickets or additional fees are required for didactic clinical courses.

This year, the general registration fee entitles attendees to participate in most didactic clinical sessions at no additional cost, and tickets are not required for these sessions.

Seats in the session rooms will be available to attendees on a first-come, first-served basis.

Select fees continue to apply to ACLS/PALS courses, hands-on clinical courses, preconference sessions, practice management and allied staff courses, and some social events. Tickets are required for admission to sessions and events that have additional fees. Tickets may be purchased through advance registration or onsite until the scheduled start of the course/event (based on availability).

Non-ticketed clinical courses with no additional fees include:

  • Large, general clinical sessions and symposia
  • Small, limited-attendance didactic clinical sessions​
  • Clinical Interest Groups
  • Faculty and resident programs
  • Clinical module programs
  • Open forums
  • Oral abstract sessions
  • Poster sessions

Ticketed courses with additional fees include:

  • ACLS and PALS
  • Hands-on clinical courses
  • Anesthesia Assistants Skills Lab
  • Preconference programs
  • Beyond the Basics coding course

Day passes are required for admission to Practice Management and Professional Staff Development sessions.

Tickets and day passes may be purchased when submitting a completed registration form online, by mail or via fax. They may also be purchased onsite but are subject to space availability.

Anesthesia Assistants Skills Lab

Anesthesia Assistants Skills Labs are not included as part of the Practice Management and Professional Staff Development Day Pass. Tickets are required for the skills lab. Please register early as these courses tend to sell out.

Beyond the Basics Coding Workshop

The Beyond the Basics Coding Workshop is held in conjunction with the AAOMS Annual Meeting. Tickets are required. Registering for the coding workshop does not secure attendance at the Annual Meeting. Separate registration is required. The coding workshop is not included in the Practice Management and Professional Staff Development Day Pass.

Meeting Facilities

The exhibition and most educational sessions will take place at the Moscone Convention Center South, 747 Howard St., San Francisco, CA 94103. 

The business sessions, Opening Ceremony, Welcome Reception, selected educational sessions and various social functions will take place at the headquarters hotel, San Francisco Marriott Marquis, 780 Mission St., San Francisco, CA 94103. 

Two hands-on cadaver workshops will be held offsite at University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, 155 Fifth St., San Francisco, CA 94103. 

Event and session locations will be throughout the final program.

AAOMS has secured room blocks at host hotels that are within close proximity to the convention center. 

Letter of Invitation

If you require a letter of invitation for visa purposes, you may submit an online request.

Online Annual Meeting Evaluation and Continuing Education Credit Transcripts

AAOMS will collect educational session evaluations and provide CDE/CME credit transcripts using an internet-based system to give attendees greater control over their continuing education credit. Attendees will need to reference their meeting badge ID number when logging in to the system.

Audiovisual Recording Sales

Select session recordings will be available for purchase onsite at a discounted rate exclusive to meeting attendees. More information will be available post-meeting at AAOMS.org/Recordings.

Annual Meeting Photography

As a service to attendees, the AAOMS photographer will take photographs throughout the meeting. Photographs will be available online for viewing and ordering within a couple of weeks after the AAOMS Annual Meeting. At that time, attendees may access the photographer's website through AAOMS.org. Photographing or videotaping AAOMS educational sessions and events by individual attendees are strictly prohibited.

Consent to Use Photographic Images and Recordings

Registration and attendance at, or participation in, AAOMS meetings and other activities constitutes an agreement by the registrant to AAOMS's use and distribution (both now and in the future) of the registrant or attendee's image or voice in photographs, electronic reproductions, video and audio recordings of such events and activities. No individual or entity may record any portion of the conference.


San Francisco's average October temperature is 70° F.

Business attire is appropriate for Annual Meeting sessions.

Business casual attire is appropriate for the President's Event.


Children are allowed in the exhibit hall at the convention center; however, they must wear a meeting badge and be accompanied by an adult. Meeting badges for children are available at no charge at the AAOMS Registration Center. For information about family-friendly activities, visit the Annual Meeting Hotel & Travel Information page.

Children are not allowed in any of the educational or business sessions.


Credentialed media representatives are invited to attend the 99th American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) Annual Meeting, Scientific Sessions and Exhibition, Oct. 11 to 14 at Moscone Convention Center South, 747 Howard St. in San Francisco, Calif.

At this premier educational experience for oral and maxillofacial surgeons, media can attend clinical sessions that cover the latest innovations in dental implants, cosmetic maxillofacial surgery, obstructive sleep apnea, reconstruction and the temporomandibular joint. The meeting also will feature more than 200 exhibitors highlighting the latest technologies.

Attend the AAOMS Annual Meeting – including the Exhibit Hall – by downloading the AAOMS Annual Meeting media registration packet that includes event details, AAOMS’s media policy and a media registration form. Note: There are no registration fees for media to attend the meeting.
